CBS Construction is one of the most successful construction and maintenance contractors in the Fort McMurray area of Alberta, Canada. Founded in 1978, the company has completed a variety of industrial projects for the oil sector—all the while developing specialties in general contracting, industrial concrete, facility maintenance, and labor supply. Known for delivering first-rate projects from the start, CBS Construction sets high standards for itself and is fully committed to safety and quality in everything it does.To provide high-quality experiences for new employees (and the HR team), CBS Construction has tapped into Formstack’s Workflows feature. With Workflows, the company can seamlessly get new hires up and running through a streamlined paperless workflow. This saves time for all involved and helps the company stay focused on what really matters: bettering the Fort McMurry community.Want to know more? Business Controls Manager Harold Knutsen gave us some insight on how Formstack’s workflow solutions have helped CBS Construction:

What initially piqued your interest about Formstack's Workflows add-on?

We were looking to reduce the amount of time required to onboard new direct-hire and subcontract employees. The existing process was very labor-intensive, involving a meeting-room setting and a PowerPoint presentation, followed by a quiz. Now, this is all done online using a Formstack Workflow form that is routed for review and approval and then travels to our Payroll team.

How has your company put Workflows to use?

We’ve put Workflows to use in several different ways. The biggest use of Workflows for CBS Construction is for our new hire onboarding process. We also utilize Workflows for subcontractor prequalification, employee expense reports, corporate asset issue and return, new vendor setup, and purchase order request forms.

What benefits have you seen since implementing Workflows?

Moving new hire onboarding forms to Formstack helped CBS give the process some necessary standardization. We now get all required information from new hire and subcontract employees since the form includes required fields. And Workflow approvers can edit submissions and approve each step in the workflow. Not only has Formstack cut down on the communication and confusion in the onboarding process, but it has also helped with follow-up because we are able to use the Formstack dashboard to check on progress status.Formstack’s mobile-friendly forms have also helped by streamlining processes. Now, managers who are at remote locations can more easily view all current forms submitted and track their progress.

Do you have plans for other ways you’d like to use Formstack and/or Workflows in the future?

We are currently in the process of converting all CBS paper forms to Formstack’s online forms.

Do you have any additional comments or feedback on the Formstack Workflows add-on?

Formstack will continue to play a key role in our company’s processes. Formstack has been a great solution for us.
